Day Trip to Valladolid

On Wednesday, March 14, Steve & Ingrid Clouther and Bob & Diane Mather took a day trip to Valladolid, with the main purpose being to visit Casa de los Venados, the home of John & Dorianne Venator, who have amassed an extensive collection of over 3,000 pieces of museum quality Mexican folk art.  Casa de los Venados is an architectural and cultural gem, that should be seen by everyone coming in the vicinity of Valladolid, and that includes Akumal, about an hour-and-half drive away.

While being in Valladolid, the tour leader, SteveC, added visits to Mayapan - Traditional Agave Distillery, The Monastery of Saint Bernardino of Siena, and lunch at Taberna de los Frailes.

From here, the Photo Galleries are available for you to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the four sites.

Casa de los Venados

Mayapan - Traditional Agave Distillery

The Monastery of Saint Bernardino of Siena

Taberna de los Frailes

Looking at the map below, Casa de los Venados is called out by name with an M on Calle 40, almost beside the Catedral.  The Agave Distillery is north of the city on the road - take Calle 40 - in the direction of Ek Balam, Tizimin, and the Cancun/Merida Cuota (toll road); turn left when you go under the 'new' overpass at 180, I believe.  The Monastery of Saint Bernardino of Siena and Taberna de los Frailes are located in the bottom, left-hand corner of the map, where San Bernardino is highlighted.
