No Place Called Home, August 16, 2012

On Thursday, August 16, 2012, Kim Schultz, and artist in residence at ONDARTE, present her play, No Place Called Home.  This was a unique and wonderful experience for Akumal; LIVE theatre.  And the setting at ONDARTE, under the palm trees and stars added another dimension to a wonderful play and performance.  One of my memorable lines from the play is, There are no memories, only sadness."

Kim Schultz is a New York based actress (AEA, SAG, AFTRA) originally from Minneapolis where she performed at such nationally recognized theatres as The Guthrie Theatre, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Mixed Blood and 10,000 Things. New York credits include: The Zipper Theatre, 3LD, Wild Project, Genesis Rep, Oberon Theatre, Hamptons Shakespeare Festival, and The Themantics Group. Kim has also worked on the Disney Wonder Cruiseship and The Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis and has performed in an HBO Comedy Showcase in LA, the Chicago Improv Festival, as well as produced and acted in a regionally televised comedy improv show called "Comedy Hotel." She also works in commercial and film. RECENT FILM: Showers of Happiness currently appearing in 2011 L.A. Women's Intl. Film Festival and at The Ireland Film Festival.

STAGE: No Place Called Home, regional tour 2011-12.  While traveling to Jordon, Lebanon, and Syria to interview Iraqi refugees and hear their stories, Kim never expected to fall in love.  She did.  This is that story.

Just prior to Akumal, Kim presented No Place Called Home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 during World Refugee Day at the sold out 500 Seat Terrace Theatre in Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

This was by invitation only, and the audience was looking forward to an enjoyable evening of live theatre.

The staff at ONDARTE did a wonderful job preparing the 'theatre' under the stars for Kim's performance.

As it turned out, it was SRO at the ONDARTE Theatre under the palms and stars.

Alec Von Bargen was the MC and provided good background on kim before introducing her to the Akumal audience.

Javier De Prado Gonzalez was enlisted to provide the percussion accompaniment.

Here she is, Kim Schultz, (almost) direct from the Kennedy Center to Akumal.

"There are no memories, only sadness."

Very well done Kim. Your passion for the Iraqi refugees brought a lot to Akumal, and those that were fortunate enough to be there, are better for it.
