AKUMAL'S NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY - -

GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS!!!!

THE GOOD NEWS

The Balzac Rock Band from Montreal reports that rehearsals for the New Year's Eve Bash are going full swing.  The vocal section (3 women, 1 man) is incredible!  The 4-part harmonies are mind-boggling!  The band is pretty tight (musically speaking, of course), and 14 of our 30 some songs are almost ready to perform.  They are right on schedule, and their first Montreal performance is on November 22.  They are really looking forward to Akumal.

THE BAD NEWS

The New Year's Eve Concert and party is 36 hours away from being canceled, as is the Coconut Cabaret 2003, because the required Advance Ticket sales have not happened.  Unfortunately, another 70 Advance Sales tickets have to be purchased by the end of business tomorrow, Monday, October 7th.  If these tickets are not sold, everything is being canceled.

There is not going to be any Fairy Godmother or Tooth Fairy to subsidize the expenses for the music equipment, food and drinks as was done with the Coconut Cabaret 2002.  If the community wants to continue with plans for the New Year's Eve bash and the Coconut Cabaret 2003, then the community needs to actively participate in the expenses.

There has been plenty of time for the community to acquire the Advance tickets, but it seems that too many want others to carry the load, by thinking, "I’ll wait until the last minute and take advantage of others' generosity."  Sorry, not this time around.

IF THE 150 ADVANCE TICKETS ARE NOT SOLD BY THE END OF THE DAY ON MONDAY, TOMORROW, OCTOBER 7TH, THERE IS NO NEW YEARS EVE PARTY ON THE STAGE, AND THERE WILL BE NO COCONUT CABARET 2003!!

TICKETS ARE REFUNDABLE

If the New Year's party is canceled, all Advance ticket sales are fully refundable.

ADVANCED TICKET NOW AVAILABLE - - $30.00US

The actual tickets for the New Year's Party are available for pickup, so please go by the Akumal Villas office, the La Bahia office, or contact Karson karson@baddog.com for your tickets.

Members of the Coconut Cabaret should seriously consider purchasing the Advance Sale tickets tomorrow, and then if necessary, they can resell them.

For those of you not here in Akumal right now, please make the arrangements with your manager, agent, or friends to send your orders and money for tickets.  The Advanced Ticket Committee consists of Karson Leigh karson@baddog.com, Nan Armstrong nanarmstrong@prodigy.net.mx, Kay Walten lgu@mail.caribe.net.mx and Katie McCarthy katie@akumal-villas.com .

It has been suggested that the villas owners who have their villas rented for Christmas and/or New Years utilize a small portion of their profits and purchase tickets for their renters/guests to help make their experience here in Akumal that much more filling.  If arrangements cannot be made through your on-site manager, you can do make payment directly within the US.  Diane Mahan's daughter, Kelly Flynn, will accept checks made out to Akumal Villas LLC, and she will deposit them into the business account to cover your purchase.  Mail to:

 ADDITIONAL NEWS FROM AROUND TOWN

BUTCH IS RECOVERING

Butch had his surgery two weeks ago.  He has recovered very well, and in fact he is very much back to normal.  He went to see his doctor today, that did the lung surgery, and the doctor told him to come back to see him in a year, so this pretty much clears the way for Butch, Chris and Francys to come back to Akumal.  They are 'thinking' in November.

HURRICANE ISADORE

Everyone is now able to breathe much easier after the passage of Isadore and Lili without much damage to Akumal and our surrounding area.  However, as you all know, other parts of the Yucatan were not as fortunate as Akumal, and it is these areas that are in need of assistance.  Much of the Akumal population has homes and families in the interior part of the Yucatan.  Among the interior pueblos, Isadore sat stationary atop of Kantunil and the surrounding area for days.  The result was devastation.   There were many houses lost.  At this exact moment, mothers, wives, sons, daughters of our Akumal community are now without the basic necessities of survival.  We are talking about the direct family members of the people that keep your Akumal business running.

The community made an effort to collect as much food as possible to take to the families of Kantunil and the surrounding pueblos.  The Akumal Real Estate office sent their driver to Kantunil with all that was collected.  Rice, dry beans, grains, and canned foods are the sort of food items that have been most useful.

If you are reading this Akumalian from the United States and feel as though you are unable to help, please reconsider and contact your manager.  They can purchase some food items on your behalf.  There is a major crisis, and we all need to pull together and give as much support to the people who make Akumal a special and magical place.

THE ABC LEADERS ARE RETURNING

Steve & Ingrid Clouther maintained their dominance of the Akumal Bowling Confederation during their North American tour, and they are returning to Akumal, with new bowling shoes, to face the challenges from Denny Mahan's 14-pound rock and Bob Mulgrew's air ball.
