North Akumal Road Construction

Dear Akumal Community,

                 We're happy to report that the road project is well underway, as seen by the accompanying photos.  The first 150 meters of road bed has been graded (which alone is a vast improvement).  The initial emphasis was put on the walkway with the intention of providing a safe passage for pedestrians once the primary work began to monopolize the roadway.   They have now also progressed to placing the pavers on the roadway.  We have collected enough money to do the entire walkway and the first 150 meters of road. Ideally, we will still collect enough to complete another 108 meters.
 

The 150M of roadway that is presently underway is from just before the Las Casitas speed bump (headed toward N. Akumal) until the speed bump before the curve.  Ideally, we will continue through the curve, just past the turn off to the bungalows on the south end, and back to the beginning, to the edge of the concrete behind CEA.

The cost of the present phase is: $45,750 USD for 150 m of roadway and 210 m of walkway.

Money pledged to date:    $57,140
Money collected to date:   $43,215
Difference:                       $13,925

The cost of the second phase: $23,800 for the remaining 108 m of roadway.

Total cost to complete all work: $69,550

MONEY STILL NEEDED: $12,400USD, assuming we receive the $13,925 in pledges not yet received

You may have noticed that the numbers are in excess of the original estimate, and this is because we augmented the original measurements both in length and width of the road area, and in the width of the walkway.  The bid that we accepted was, in fact, slightly lower than the original estimate, but the overall cost is still higher.

Heart felt thanks to all those who have already contributed.  We are including the list of donors and donations, so that everyone can appreciate the generosity of the community, and we hope that it will be inspirational to those who have not yet participated.  We all benefit immensely from this improvement, and we all need to contribute toward its completion.  Let's raise this last $12,400 and see the job done right!
